HONY-HONY LUAU FEAST IS COMING TO
SANDY LANGE’S HALLE TROPICAL RETREAT ON
SAT, SEPT. 20th @ 6 pm

We’ve sent the Luau Feast Menu to everyone so you can see the mouth watering dishes that will be served at the Hony-Hony (Hohn-nee) Luau Feast.  But, it is also included in this newsletter.  If that menu doesn’t make your mouth water, your taste buds must be dead!  This will be one Luau that will be as close to one as you would see if you were in Hawaii…but a lot less expensive!

If the Delta breeze cooperates, you can almost feel the ocean breezes waft through the trees. Hear the rhythmic sound of the surf and take off your shoes as you walk barefoot across the cool lawn to your table, Tiki Torches lighting the way. Stop by the Fruit Bar for an appetizer. Hear the soothing music of the islands as your plate is filled with succulent Kahalui Luau pulled pork (Yes, we’ve got the whole suckling pig), try the WikiWiki Lomilomi Salmon or Glass Noodles and all the wonderful dishes of the Islands.  Pineapple-Coconut cake and delicious home made Pineapple Ice Cream finish off the delectables. Kona coffee will be available or (BYOB) bring your own special beverage.

With a full tummy, sit back and relax as the evening gets moving along. Enjoy the entertaining Polynesian dances of the Na Keiki O’ Hawai’i dancers as they sway to the Polynesian beat.  Join in and they will teach you how to move your feet and hips for the Hula.  It’s always fun to try.  See how coordinated…or not…you are.

Then…here comes the band! It’s Johnny Mulligan and The Bad Caddies and the four of them will play a variety of dance music so you can dance the evening away or…bring your bathing suit and towel so you can dive into Sandy’s big ole hot tub…or do both!

Cost is $25.00 for members, $30 for guests.

Luau tickets went on sale at the August 27th Social meeting at Strings Italian Café.  We are doing this in conjunction with another group and space is limited. Get your ticket before Sunday, Sept. 14th by making out the check to FaGowees, and then mail it to Kati White, 9449 Appalachian Drive, Sacramento, CA.  95827. You must have a ticket to attend…no last minute gate crashers allowed since we have to plan food for only those who buy tickets.

It happens Saturday, September 20th starting about 6 pm and lasting until the pig is gone and the band leaves.  Mark your calendars now for this Special Social Meeting of the month.  Delicious!

The Hony-Hony Luau Feast is back!!!

Prez Says

August has passed by leaving memories of all the events of the month.

August 13-16 Abalone Dive: Thanks to Nancy Glebov for chairing the event. That goes for Alex as well.  They had help from their grandkids, Sophia & Nathan. Our diver this year was Ellen Page who was taken care of by her left hand man Tim. We had 3 guests; Ivan & Emma Bartel and Chizuko Kawamoto’s friend Jerry Lyerly. John Canipe came down on Saturday for a visit.

Thanks to John Johnson, Wally Baumgartner & Kati White for their work in food prep. Those of us who gave moral support were; Lee Johnson, Marilyn Miller & Jeanne Molineaux providing entertainment by playing wood pipe flutes. Helen Milligan provided tales of her trip to Mendocino. I stood around and made sure of standing around. Thanks to all for your participation.

On to the 2nd annual golf tournament with meatballs and golf balls: August 27th. As now the results are not in, so stay tuned for the drama of the big winners.

We have several groups working on up coming events & they need your support & help.

For all events & socials, check your newsletters and fill in your social calendar.

Filling one of the chairs, Andrea has stepped forward & will be the membership chairperson. Many thanks Andrea.

See You All At the Next Social.

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

See Photos Online!!!

ALSO looking for pictures for the newsletter!!!

Do you have information about a special event, interesting news or a
sale that is relevant to the interests of club members?
Email Andrea and it can be forwarded on to all the FaGowees.

Do We Have Your Correct Email Address???

A lot of our announcements go out by email.
If your email has changed, please contact Andrea NOW!!
You can also contact her regarding address and phone number.
If you want an email going out to membership with your new email address, let her know.

ABALONE  DIVE AND DINE  RECAP                                                                                                                                                                                                   Nancy Glebov

19 FaGowees and friends gathered at Caspar for our annual Abalone week-end.  We also had the 4-legged pleasure of Mason, Lottie and Shane’s company.  The weather was perfect for sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying the beach.

An anonymous source told me Kati and Co. barely made their 7 o’clock dinner reservation at the Wharf on Fri night!  Alex and Wally tried fishing but the surf was too rough.   Emma, Ivan, Chizuko, Jerry,  and Shane browsed around Ft. Bragg.   I tried to go to my favorite shop--Fushiarama--only to find out it had gone out of business!!  Nathan and Sophia  learned to skim board.

Thanks to Ellen Paige and John Canipe we had plenty of the delicious abs to go around.  My grandchildren, Sophia and Nathan, learned how to pound and prepare them for cooking.   I am so glad JJ was there to do the  prepping and cooking--thank you, again.

Our dinner menu included bar-b-que chicken, Sloughhouse corn, macaroni, potato, and bean salad, tossed salad, cantaloupe and watermelon, and rolls.  For dessert  we had Kati’s brownies, Dick’s homemade peach ice cream, and Nancy’s homemade vanilla ice cream.  Is your mouth watering?   It really was a delicious meal--made even better by being shared with family and friends.  I hope those who didn’t come will return-----

SAME TIME    NEXT YEAR

P.S.  I would like to extend a special thanks to Kati, Jon, Chizuko, Jerry, Wally, Alex, Sophia, Nathan, and Emma for helping with dinner preparations.   And to Ellen, Tim and John for the abalone provided.

Want to have fun and earn “FaGowee Bucks” at the same time?

Just host a FaGowee party or organize a FaGowee event of more than 5 members.

(For instance if you host the Abalone Dive and Dine you can make around

50 FaGowee Bucks, host a party at your home gets you 10 Bucks.)

You can use these “FaGowee Bucks” at most FaGowee events that are not “fundraisers”.

Interested? Contact any Board Member for more information.

And now…the continuing saga of our Heroine…Susie Sidebottom
Chapter Four

1943 World News

¨ Mussolini and his officials resign: he is then imprisoned.

¨ General Eisenhower and Italian Marshal Pietro Badoglio sign and armistice.

¨ Japan withdraws from Guadalcanal.

¨ Iran declares war on Germany & joins the League of Nations.

Susie looked over the recap of events and gave out an exhausted sigh. So many things had happened in the past 3 years.  The war was still raging in Europe, Africa and the Pacific.  Her brother, Antonio was now a Navy XO on a submarine called Tang with Commander Richard O’Kane. She would find out later that their sub made the first run into Tokyo Bay by positioning itself under the belly of a cargo ship, slipping thru the undersea netting and avoiding the mines that littered the bay.  Once in, they had to settle and wait, deep in the dark, with no sounds, not even whispers in the dim red light.

Antonio’s best friend, Sgt. Ken Thompson, was in the Army Air Corps and was a gunnery Sergeant flying with Jimmy Doolittle’s squad in the Pacific.  The man of her dreams, Marcello Pepperoni had written her from some where in France but again, his letter looked like some one had used it for a target at a turkey shoot.  Because Marcello spoke several languages, he was working with the OSS but couldn’t say anything more.  She only prayed he would return to her arms soon.  She thought about how they had literally run into each other at the store where they used to play card games.

Susie helped her parents with their winery on the ridge. Her friend, Patricia Lane, helped her family with the Texas longhorn cattle but with both enterprises, it was always a gamble.  Once in a while they would go visit their Grandparents at the Native Home Senior Center and admire the Rose Gardens.  When Marcello returned, she dreamed of when they would be married and maybe buy the old Hanford house.  But for now, it was time to make some home made pies.

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.
