ALOHA LUAU A BIG SUCCESS!!! Well, if you missed it (and many of you did), you missed one heck of a great party! It was unlike any previous Fagowee Luau’s. Many of the 42 who attended said it was the best Luau they had ever been to. This Luau was shared by FaGowees and eLife Adventure members and the way it looked, everyone was having a great time! With Tiki torches lining and lighting the whole scene, the Na Keiki O’Hawai’i Polynesian Dancers had the audience enthralled as they gracefully swayed to various Hawaiian songs or moved their hips faster than you can blink an eye to the rhythmic beat of the drums or fascinated us with the Poi Balls. Their interaction with people worked wonderfully as several attendees learned a type of Hawaiian line dance that seemed to be sort of a cross between the Hokey-Pokey and the Electric Slide. The Bad Caddies band provided some really great music to either listen or dance to. They played a little bit of country and some really great rock-n-roll…from Jimmy Hendrix to Bruce Springsteen and even a couple of The Eagles hits. The soft grass dance floor seemed to fit perfectly into the evening as couples shook off the shoes and had a good time. And ahhh…the food! The Suckling Pig was the center of attention for many. The Poo-Poos were varied and tasty with lots of fresh fruit and dip, Sandy’s Coconut Chicken Wings, Crab Dip with assorted kinds of crackers and Haupii, traditional coconut milk chilled custard squares. I (Kati) spent a whole day just shopping for the ingredients, consulting with the Poke Specialist at Oto’s, and then two days of cooking and preparing for the items listed on the Menu which was in previous newsletters. Thank goodness for a stool and heavy mat in my kitchen! And I, who really don’t like to cook, had total satisfaction when I looked at the people who were devouring all of it. Mahalo to Bob McDonald, Sandy Lange and Dick Persons who worked so hard with me to bring this Aloha Luau to fruition. Thanks to Helene Mulligan who stepped in to greet and “Lei” people. Without them, it would not have happened and 42 people would not have had such a good time. Mahalo also to those who did come. Hope to see you at the next party! Aloha! |
