MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL TIME

Just a reminder… It’s membership renewal time again. Send in your renewal fee prior to October 31st to receive a $5.00 discount. You will also receive an additional $5.00 discount if you opt to receive your newsletter on line instead of having a hard copy mailed to your home or post office box. You can download and print a copy of the renewal form on the FaGowee website. If you have any questions or problems, contact Karen Fontaine-Benedict at 916-985-8523.

GOLD POINT GHOST TOWN TRIP

Don Girard has planned another trip to Gold Point Ghost Town in Nevada over the weekend of October 6 to 9th. This has always been a fun-filled trip for those that have participated. I believe that the sign-up deadline has passed, but I’m sure if you call and beg Don for a space, he’ll reluctantly relent and get you a spot.

NUPTIAL CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Danielle Woods and David Sliper on their upcoming nuptials on October 7th. I wish them the best of all this world has to offer and a happy and prosperous long life together.

LIVE THEATER NIGHT

Lauri has planned a night out at the Coloma Theater to see a live stage melodrama. Come out and Boo the villain and AAAHHHH the lovely maiden. Weather permitting, we will plan a tailgate picnic party prior to the play. Get your money to Lauri by the October 24th deadline. This should be a really fun night of laughs and comrade of your fellow (and fellowette) FaGowees.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

The Social meeting for October will not be held on the 4th Tuesday of the month as regularly scheduled. Fakhri Alzera and Rob Rice have graciously offered their home to hold the combination October Social meeting & Halloween Party on Saturday, October 21st at 7 pm. There will be the usual potluck and prizes for the best costumes. Dress up in something unusual this year and join in on the fun.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS

Don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour on Sunday morning (2:00am) on October 29th. How many of us have forgotten to do that? I know I have and it really made for some embarrassing moments – enough said on that subject.

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

Summer has arrived and so has the opportunity for pictures! Take pictures of any FaGowee’s having fun so I can include them in our photo albums. The albums are brought to each and every FaGowee function with the photos of our past events, and I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums. So...get those pictures taken so I can add them to our archives.

Currently I’m looking for pictures from Yosemite Trip & Family Picnic/Luau!

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I’d prefer the prints to be 4”x 6” in size. Also, I would like them in groups of 6 so that they will take up a whole page in the album.
If you have any questions, or photos you’d like to part with, please contact me at 817-4277.

See Photos Online!!!

Snow News is published monthly for the FaGowee International, Sacramento Chapter members. Articles or photos MUST BE to Tracee Carter by the 20th of each month. You may e-mail the information to Tracee at newsletter@sacramentofagowees.org or call (509-279-8454). Abalone Dive & Dine – 2006

The Abalone Dive & Dine weekend of August 17 to 20, 2006 was another FaGowee success story. There were thirty-seven FaGowee members and twenty-six guests in attendance at this event. We had a total of twelve divers (three were FaGowee members as well as nine guest divers (one was 12 years young) that brought in enough abalone to feed the entire tribe, and we still had several abs for each diver to take a couple home with them for their efforts. We had fifty-one adults and twelve children under the age of sixteen. I’m glad that this has become an event where the children and grandchildren are feeling welcomed into our midst and being included.

My thanks to my son-in-law (Shannon Powell) for bringing his Zodiac boat to get the divers out to the abalone beds, to Tim & Ellen Page, Adrianne Parks, Shannon and Chasen Powell, Dean Tonsager, Jon Burgess, Brian Luiz, Dave Dolson, Tim Robertson, Jeff Coates and Mark Tinfani for diving and bringing in the haul of the weekend. Also, my thanks to Jan McKissick and Jon Johnson for cooking the abalone; to Greg Holman for BBQ’ing the chicken; to Jackie Chesi for preparing the salad; to Phyllis Figlioli for preparing the garlic bread; and to Margaret Norville, Ann Fajen, Diane Wilson, Marilyn Miller and Jackie Chesi for serving dinner to the hungry braves and bravettes.

There was a vicious rumor going around that I was not going to plan and host the Abalone Dive & Dine weekend in 2007. I put an abrupt halt to that rumor after we gathered for dinner and just before we ate. That rumor was true. I’ve done the Ab Dive for the past 4 (or 5 – who counts that high?) years and I figured it is the turn of someone else to pick up the ball and run with it. Your club treasurer and membership chair have graciously
volunteered to do just that, and they will be in charge next year. I trust that you will give them all the help you’ve given me in the past. Without that help, this event would be a bust.

I have already reserved 15 R/V sites and 3 tent sites for next years trip, so be sure to mark your calendars and set aside the time to join us from Thursday to Sunday, August 16 to 19, 2007.

Alas, to the sorrow of us all, the Cottontail Ranch has closed. But now I throw up a challenge to the women of the FaGowee. Do you have the courage and fortitude to re-open the Cottontail Ranch? Let me see your mettle. Let me see your dedication to honest femininity. Who will be the first to step forward. Tom and Adrian have signed up along with Eric and Shirley, Canipe and Mark. Will one of these men volunteer their women?

Riddle of the month: What is the first thing to do when stopping on a dirt road?. Answer to be given at dinner at the Mono Inn in Lee Vining Thursday night.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

Discount Tickets

It’s that time of year again. It’s never too early to start thinking about the slopes and a cheaper way to be there. Each year the club offers members the chance to purchase lift tickets to the most popular North Tahoe resorts at a discount (usually $9 to $11 below the normal price). Just send in a completed order form and a check to guarantee your tickets. You can also purchase tickets throughout the season while supplies last. And the best part is, you can turn in your tickets at the end of the season by the posted deadline for a credit towards tickets next year.

By the middle of next month, those of you turned in tickets last spring will be receiving order forms with your credits. If you have credits and fail to return your form before the deadline an order will be made to cover your credits. 2005/2006 ticket returns for Alpine Meadows, Northstar, and Squaw Valley can still be returned until 10/31/2006. Order form will be available on the web site by the middle of October 2006 or or contact me via phone or e-mail and I’ll send you an order form.

This year we are offering tickets for Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, Northstar/Sierra-at-Tahoe, Homewood, and Sugar Bowl. At this time I do not have complete price information, but this is what I know so far.

Alpine Meadows – No information at this time. Last year’s discount price was $39, two dollars less than the regular price with black-out dates during holidays.

Homewood – No information at this time. Last year’s discount price was $34, a discount of $10 from the weekend price.

Northstar-at-Tahoe/Sierra-at-Tahoe – The discount price has gone up two dollars to $53. The regular price will be $63 and goes up to $66 Christmas week (there are no restriction on the discount tickets).

Squaw Valley – The discount price has gone up two dollars to $55. Expect the regular price increase from last year’s price of $62.

Sugar Bowl – No information at this time. Last year’s discount price was $37, a discount of $8 from the weekend price.

FWSA is offering an exciting European Winter Trip for 2007

Bormio, Italy
March 3rd-11th
Our Bormio package remains as advertised. For more information CLICK HERE
The Posta Hotel is full, but we still have space in the other three units and I'm assured they are excellent hotels.

And for those who can take the time, a pre and post trip extensions.

We have an exciting pre-trip to Interlaken, Switzerland
It is truly a wonderful place for skiers and non-skiers alike.
Our pre-trip will start on Feb.27th flying to Zurich and on to Interlaken for 4 nights.
Interlaken was named by monks in 1130 because it is sandwiched between two lakes:
the Brienzersee and the Thunersee which are lined by a large collection of castles, shops, and restaurants.
It is nestled below the Jungfrau region, which is considered the birthplace of skiing. We got all this for a very reasonable price.

Post Bormio trip is visiting Verona, Florence, a wine tasting in Tuscany, Siena and finally Rome (by motor coach)
We start in Verona on March 11th and will return home from Rome on March 18th.

We expect to have travel details out to all who have sent us deposits in two weeks. This package will contain payment schedules, a formal application and waiver, request for a copy of your passport, confirmation of Bormio hotel accommodations, optional tour availability and all the details we can accumulate on the three trips at this time. When we get closer to departure or as it becomes available,
we will provide you with more complete travel information, e.g. airline schedules, lift ticket arrangements, etc.

Pre and post trip participation is limited by our ability to firm up airline arrangements.
We will fill airline seats based on the date we receive your deposit.

To be included in the pre or post extensions, you must send FWSA an additional $100 for each of the pre and post trip (s) you choose.

I believe we can get plenty of space for those who want to join us on the extensions at this time,
but to do so we need to confirm airline seats within a couple of weeks. Send your deposits now to assure your place.
