TASTE A LOT OF APPETIZERS – SIP SOME WINE – DRINK SOME BEER – PLAY SOME AMUSING & ENTERTAINING GAMES

HAVE A REALLY GOOD TIME…

That’s what’s in store for you when you come to Eileen Kennedy’s home
521 Estates Drive, Sacramento, 95864
(just off Fair Oaks Blvd.) on
Saturday, Nov. 8th at 6 pm

This time the LADIES WILL BRING THE APPETIZERS and the MEN WILL BRING THE “ADULT BEVERAGES”, i.e. wine or beer to share and go with the delicious and hearty appetizers the ladies have brought for us all to enjoy. Since this will be dinner for some, please bring enough to share & if there are leftovers…Great!  Some one can always use a “care plate to go” or you can finish them off the next day!

After we have devoured a lot of the goodies…Let the Games Begin!  Bring your favorite game and we’ll play as many as we choose.  There will be Mexican Train, Sequence, maybe even Jenga or Chutes & Ladders.  Who knows?!?  We’ll see who brings what and decide from there.  The last time we had a game night there were almost 20 people attending and the laughs and shouts of excitement resounded!

After we’ve played games for a while, there will be Apple Pie & Ice Cream for dessert so we can send you home on a full tummy and mellow, relaxed feeling from having an enjoyable evening with friends.  Can’t get much better than that!

HOW ‘BOUT SPAGHETTI FOR THANKSGIVING?

With the Holiday Season upon us, you’re probably going to get enough Turkey, Pumpkin Pie and Stuffing to stuff you until next year so we’ve decided to do a little something different this year.  How about joining fellow FaGowees and stuffing yourself with one of the great delectables from The Old Spaghetti Factory, Hazel & Sunrise, on Tuesday, November 25that 7 pm.  The ambiance is there for good ole fashioned Italian foods, crisp salad (Creamy Pesto dressing, yummm), and finish it off with either Vanilla or Spumoni Ice Cream!  Of course, your choices of beverages are available but a good glass of wine to celebrate and enhance the dinner is always nice.

As an added little fun thing to do, bring along a funny Christmas card and we’ll pass them around the table for some laughs as we wait for our salad & bread.  Tell us about one of your most memorable Thanksgivings.  Did the turkey get burned or was it still in the freezer?  Lumpy mashed potatoes?  Child, spouse, parents get to join you for the special dinner?  Did your parakeet fly into the gravy like mine did?  Let’s get to know some of the things that made your Turkey Day memorable!  Bon appetite!

DON'T FORGET TO JOIN US AT THE
SOCIAL MEETINGS!

Prez Says

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!  November is here and it is time to anoint a new leader for the next four years.  I personally believe it is like going to the crap tables.

As we had a little problem with the car rally and the closing of the place where we were to have had dinner and such, the committee did a little wind-down at Danielle & David’s cabin. Here we did talk about next April with the same theme.

Now for a little insight we all share:

Me and my friends

You know, my friends and I like to think a lot
This takes a considered amount of time and energy
When growing up, the older folks did this also
They, as I guess we today, where thought of as old
Others, those just a year or two younger think of it as lazy
Now, or maybe, I would/could protest
But there is a saying, he who protest to loud and much
May be just that
The reason for my having to think about what it is
My friends and I do, is being driven home
This by our elected officials
There are some similarities
They sit around a lot, but I don’t see them as great thinkers
Not like my friends and I
We come up with ideas and we believe solutions
Their thinking is what long weekend is this?
Therefore, I am concluding they are senile
They are unable to talk to one another
Here again, this is only my believe
Back to us great thinkers and doers
If only we could be heard in our arena.

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

See Photos Online!!!

ALSO looking for pictures for the newsletter!!!

Do you have information about a special event, interesting news or a
sale that is relevant to the interests of club members?
Email Andrea and it can be forwarded on to all the FaGowees.

Do We Have Your Correct Email Address???

A lot of our announcements go out by email.
If your email has changed, please contact Andrea NOW!!
You can also contact her regarding address and phone number.
If you want an email going out to membership with your new email address, let her know.

Wine & Pine just in time for Christmas
Sat., Nov. 29.  Meet at Park & Ride on
Sunrise @ Folsom Blvd. @ 9 AM
SHARP!

This is an event we used to do but have
not done now for several years and that is…

Go up to the Foothill Wine Country, visit 3 or 4 or ?? wineries, tasting along the way.  We brought our own picnic lunch goodies and usually found a warm, dry place to have our lunch with some of the wine we had purchased.  Then, after a while, we would wander over to the Christmas Tree Farm and look for that one, very special Christmas tree.  Once some one thought they’d found “the perfect tree”, we would all gather around and judge the tree.  If we, the Christmas Tree Judging Committee, decided it was worthy, said tree would get cut down, taken to the “binding” area and end up all squashed in mesh to
it could be transported back to Sacramento.

Kati will drive her truck so she can haul your tree back to Sacramento and we’ll manage to get it to your home. If you have her bring the tree back, a contribution for the gas would be appreciated.

I have to admit that after visiting 3 or 4 or ??? wineries, some of us had a harder time focusing on the attributes of the tree than others but we managed.  Now, it’s time to do it again!  Discover the delights and spirits (in more than one way) of the Christmas Season by coming with us. We’ll meet and car pool at the Park & Ride at Folsom Blvd.
& Sunrise Ave. on
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29th AT 9 AM.

If you get there at 9:15, you may be in the parking lot by yourself

We are co-mingling this event with eLife Adventure people so it’s a chance to meet and greet some new people.  Maybe some of them will be skiers so introduce yourself and see?  People are only
strangers until you say Hello.  Then, let’s go have a good time!

Cornish Christmas

Tom Tobin: FaGowee Volunteer Needed

Some day you may be in a terrible accident or have a stroke and require rehabilitation services.
Will there be someone there to help you?

Tom Tobin would not be able to get to his rehab appointments or progress in his therapy at home if it weren’t for volunteers like the generous FaGowees who have been offering their time to him. Tom is now on a schedule of usually 2 contiguous appointments one day a week and will need volunteers to take him on an ongoing visit. The one hour appointments (speech therapy ST and physical therapy PT) are all at Kaiser Point West. All that is needed is for someone to take him, stay with him during the appointment and take him home.

It would be nice if they can pick up his wheelchair; if not the personnel at his residence can put it in your car. If you can’t find help to get it out of the car at Kaiser, he can use one of the (very uncomfortable Kaiser chairs.) If you would prefer to meet Tom at Kaiser; that is possible for morning appointments, the care home can provide transportation if given plenty of notice.

There is now a new coordinator for his appointments. His name is Ben Dotson and he is very nice. If you can volunteer, you can reach Ben at 601-6657 or tenniben@yahoo.com

You can also go visit Tom at any time for about ½ hour or so; you can spend the time having him practice his ST or PT exercises. It is really gratifying to see the improvement he is gradually making. Lee Johnson has been working very hard on this (in addition to taking him to many, many appointments) and would appreciate your help. You can call Lee at 967-5903.

These are the upcoming appointments:

- Thursday, November 6 at 2:30 pm ST with J Boettcher and PT at 3:45 with JM Perry
- Wednesday November 12 at 10:15 am PT with JM Perry and ST at 11:30 am with J Boettcher
- Wednesday, November 19 at 10:15am PT with JM Perry and 11:30 am ST with J Boettcher
- Wednesday, November 26 at 11:30 am ST with J Boettcher
The appointments are $30 each. Volunteer pays for it up front and is then reimbursed by his daughter in law:

Tobin, Mary Beth, 2317 Makemie, Springfield, IL 62074, H 217 546-3176, C 217 719-9190

Tom Tobin is still in the Fair Oaks Estates at 8845 Fair Oaks Blvd., Carmichael (West of Fair Oaks Blvd & San Juan) and appreciates visitors A short 10 to 15 minute is all it takes and if you can spend 30 minutes you can help him with his speech exercises. He has a black notebook on his table with the exercises and he needs your assistance. He recognizes every one and know what you are saying if you speak slow but has trouble answering you. If you can dedicate a visit or two a week call Lee Johnson 967-5903 and we can work out a schedule. Tom is a good friend and it isn't difficult.

Discount Tickets ~ Robert Rice

Each year the club offers members the chance to purchase lift tickets to the most popular North Tahoe resorts at a discount (usually $9 to $11 below the normal price). Just send in a completed order form and a check to guarantee your tickets. You can also purchase tickets throughout the season while supplies last. And the best part is, you can turn in your tickets at the end of the season by the posted deadline for a credit towards tickets next year.

Members who turned in tickets last spring should have received an order forms with your credits. If you have credits and fail to return your form before the deadline an order will be made to cover your credits. Credits are ski area specific (e.g., if you turned in Homewood tickets your credit is only good for Homewood tickets). Order forms will also be posted on the Sacramento FaGowees website or you can contact me via phone or e-mail and I’ll send you an order form.

As usual the club is offering tickets at the five popular North Tahoe ski areas. Only limited pricing details are available at this time.

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. What do YOU want to do?

It’s your turn to help out the club.

Summer is fading into fall. Pick any kind of activity you
enjoy and you’ll find other FaGowees eager to participate!

Hopefully, you can schedule your event in time to get an article in the newsletter!! Articles are due the 20th of the month; email your article to Andrea and your email will go out to all our members.

Make sure the event doesn’t conflict with any major FaGowee events. If the event requires expenditure of club funds, then you will need to get board approval before we can publicize it.
