Prez Says

As my term as your Chief, comes to a close, I would like to share my gratitude with the members in officialdom.  Being president is not all that difficult of a task.  The real work is done by your board.
Lee Johnson sits next to me at all the board meetings.  He has been invaluable to me with his wit, humor, historical knowledge, and his willingness as V.P. to fill in the gaps. Skiing with you has been especially fun!
Shirley Schmitt, I want to say thanks a bunch!  Shirley has served on and off the board for years.  She has a wisdom about her that we all listen to and we will miss.  Thanks Shirley, for being there when I come to you for advice or just for another opinion.
Jim Van Riper, what can I say, but a big thanks for serving a very time consuming job as Secretary, and trip leader of one of the big club events!  You were there when I came here from Cleveland looking for "the Club".  Thanks again Jim, your my good friend with Jaeger always on ice!  Good luck on your next assignment, "the Chief!".
Karen Benedict has done a great service this past year as Membership Chair.  This is a very time consuming job, a rather difficult job, until you get it organized, and get the computer/data system down.  Karen has also volunteered to help out wherever needed outside this position.  Thank you, Karen for filling this position again.
I also have Jon Johnson to thank as my friend, and personal advisor as Past President.  You have been at my disposal for legal advice, when I make decisions, or have problems concerning the club.  I thank you for your assistance in operating this club this past year.
Meredith Meschini leaves us as Social Chair. Well Meredith, what can say except thanks for filling that spot.  You continue to amaze me with your unending energy, and creativity in finding new things to do and new places to go  Thank you Meredith for turning us on to Kayaking.
Thanks to you Norman Benedict for taking on the task of Treasurer for another year!  Your skills as Treasurer are greatly appreciated.  Your input, Ideas, and assistance helped us all in operating the club this past year.  Thank you Norm!
Tracee Carter brought her expertise to the club.  The newsletter and website reflect that drive of yours to deliver.  You Tracee have been a delight to work with.  Becoming a Mother for the second time I know is most important to you and your family, but, you still took time to give your devotion to the club.  For that, we all thank you, Tracee.
Last and certainly not least, I would like to thank our Historian Bob McDonald.  You have organized all our events and trips in pictures seen by many.  These yearly albums demonstrate the longevity of good times of the clubs existence.  Thanks again Bob for your contribution to the club
.

Thank you FaGowees, for letting me be your president for the 2004-2005 year!
ERIC

2nd ANNUAL FaGOWEE FAMILY PICNIC & END OF THE WORLD PARTY
By: Jim Van Riper & Meredith Meschini

DAY / DATE: Saturday, June 4, 2005 – 11:00 am
LOCATION:
Rancho Seco Recreational Area – Picnic Site # 2-C
COST: There is a $5 entry fee at the park ($4 for seniors and handicapped).
Your entry fee will be reimbursed at the picnic site upon showing your receipt.

Come and join your brother & sister FaGowee’s at our 2nd Annual FaGowee Family Picnic. This outing is being combined with the annual End of the World Party this year. If you have any FaCademy Awards to present this year, this will be the place and time to do it. This location shows all the earmarks of being a great place to hold this first of many annual events. Rancho Seco Recreational Area is located adjacent to SMUD’s former nuclear power plant. There is a 160-acre fresh-water lake, large lawn areas and a large clean sandy beach. R/V and tent camping sites are available for those who might want to come earlier or stay longer.
Note: If you want to camp, you must make your own reservations. Reservation information is listed below on this page.

Some of us will be staying in the campground for the weekend.

FOR THIS OUTING: We plan to share a BBQ picnic lunch and to enjoy a great fun day together.
THE CLUB WILL PROVIDE:
Meats to BBQ, the sandwich buns and condiments, a variety of soft drinks & bottled water, and the plates, cups & eating utensils.
YOU NEED TO BRING:
Your friends and family (yes, your kids and grandkids are welcome). Bring your own booze and a pot-luck dish to share. Bring your ball gloves, bats and a ball for a softball game, your horseshoes, your Frisbees, your swimsuits, your kayaks or canoes and your fishing poles. Also bring any FaCademy Awards you may wish to present to any of your unsuspecting recipients.
ADDITIONAL THINGS TO DO:
Rancho Seco Recreational Area offers everybody a wide variety of things to do for their enjoyment.

  1. 100 shaded, grassy picnic areas adorn the lake’s southern shore. Picnic tables and BBQ pits are available.

  2. Cast a line from one of the six fishing piers. The lake sports bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish, crappie and catfish. SMUD also stocks the lake with rainbow trout, November through March. (Fishing enthusiasts 16 years and older must possess a valid California fishing license to fish).

  3. There are two boat-launching ramps. Bring your own kayak, canoe, rowboat, sailboat or electric motor boat. Gas-powered boats are not allowed on the lake.

  4. Pedal-boat and kayak rental is available from May through September.

  5. Depending on the wind conditions, windsurfing is allowed.

  8. 18 R/V campsites are available. Each site has a BBQ, fire pit, picnic table, drinking water and electrical outlets. There is a $15 per night charge for R/V sites and reservations are required. A sanitation dumpsite is available at the park. Call 916-732-4913 to make your R/V reservations.

  9. 20 Tent lakeside campsites are available. Each site has a BBQ, picnic table and drinking water. There is a $10 per night charge for Tent sites and reservations are required. Call 916-732-4913 to make your camping reservations.

Actually, it may be more, we lost count!
At this point, we only have the awards for the Sierra League racers, not for the finals.
We’ll try and print those for the next edition.

Mark Hadley (S2): 4th
Lee Johnson (S8): gold medal

**Racers: if you raced more than one race this season, be sure and show up for the End of the World party on June 4th for your surprise gift.  Please let Andrea (andreajoew@sbcglobal.net or 487-9052)) know what size T shirt you wear (I guess that question kind of spoils the surprise part of it!)

I encourage all of you that didn’t race this year to commit to it next year.  It’s really a lot of fun; you make new friends you’re your skiing really improves.  You will get a handicap and just race against others at your own level!

New this year was race registration via the Internet so that you didn’t have to drag yourself out of bed at some ungodly hour to be at registration at 7:30a.m. to 8:30a.m.
