It's volunteer time again.  Mark your calendars and plan to join us as the FaGowee's volunteer again to help serve the Sacramento County Therapeutic Recreation Services by working at the finish line at Eppie's Great Race, the world's oldest triathlon.  This 35-years-old event features a run-bike-paddle competition along the beautiful American River Parkway.  Competitors start with a 5.82 mile run, followed by a 12.5 mile cycle ride, and finally a 6.35 mile paddle race down the American River to the final finish line.

Many of our faithful club members have volunteered to serve at this event for over 12 years and we have always had a great time.  Our volunteer duties include congratulating the finishers as they cross the finish line, remove their bib numbers, staple their tags and record the overall times of the individual contestants or teams.

For our efforts, we receive a complimentary event T-Shirt (AM to XXL), FREE drink (water, soft drinks or beer) and FREE food (hot dog or chicken sandwich) coupons and a FREE parking permit for the day.  We also receive an abundance of "Thank You's" from many of the contestants and from the race officials.

After our duties are completed, we will once again meet at the home of Diane Wilson for a BBQ & Pool party.

Please contact Jackie Chesi with your name, phone number, e-mail address and your T-shirt size if you'd like to volunteer for such a worthy cause.  Your day will not be wasted, I promise. See you there!!

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

See Photos Online!!!

ALSO looking for pictures for the newsletter!!!

Do you have information about a special event, interesting news or a
sale that is relevant to the interests of club members?
Email Andrea and it can be forwarded on to all the FaGowees.

Do We Have Your Correct Email Address???

The club sent out a lot of email in July. If you didn't get them, it is because we don't have your correct email address. WE are sending out a lot of updated information that isn't in your newsletter and we don't want you to miss out.

If your email has changed, please contact Andrea NOW!!  Word will be passed on to membership chairperson, Karen Fountain-Benedict.  If you have other changes, such as address or phone number, be sure to contact membership directly.

Want to have fun and earn “FaGowee Bucks” at the same time?

Just host a FaGowee party or organize a FaGowee event of more than 5 members.

(For instance if you host the Abalone Dive and Dine you can make around

50 FaGowee Bucks, host a party at your home gets you 10 Bucks.)

You can use these “FaGowee Bucks” at most FaGowee events that are not “fundraisers”.

Interested? Contact any Board Member for more information.

May Game Night Recap

Laughter and munching sounds permeated the air during the FaGowees first Game Night in May.  Eighteen FaGowees got together for  5 hours of fun and camaraderie.  Mexican Train and Apples to Apples were the two most popular games..   Ron and Tobie did a spectacular job hosting and everyone contributed to the yummy feast.  An added bonus was the birthday celebration of  Bob McDonald.  We’ll have another game night as soon as we get someone to volunteer their home.  Will it be you?  Contact Andrea if you’re interested

ANNUAL ABALONE
DIVE & DINE

Nancy Glebov, Trip Leader

As this years trip coordinator I want to remind you that it is only 2 months away! I'm a little concerned that only 2 parties have called for a reservation at this time. This is one of the most fun, relaxing, beautiful, and family oriented trips our club has. For the last 3 years Alex and I have taken our 2 grandchildren, Nathan and Sophia, and they have had a ball.

Regardless of your interests--you will find more than you could ever do in just a weekend. Like to shop? Go to Mendocino or Ft Bragg--esp. if you are in to antiques. While you're in Ft Bragg enjoy a trip on the Skunk Train. Do you play golf? They have a beautiful course at Little River. In the mood for wine
tasting? Anderson Valley is just a short drive down Hwy 128. Want to go on a hike? Of course it's beautiful along the Mendocino Headlands, but have you ever been to the Pygmy Forest at Vam Damme State Park? Own a kayak? The ocean is right at your backdoor. Do you love flowers, gardening, and nurseries like me? Visit the botanical gardens--you can even have lunch there. Go to Fuschiarama (a little north of Ft Bragg) for beautiful fuchsias, tuberous begonias and a great gift shop. Like to fly kites? Casper Beach is the place and it's just across the street--you don't even have to get in the car. Want a beautiful place to just sit, enjoy, unwind, and read your book? You're there. Come to Caspar once and you'll be hooked.

The club has reserved 11 RV sites--all full hookups and 2 large tent sites.

WHERE:

WHEN:

Caspar Beach R/V Park & Campground

Arrive: Thursday, Aug 14, 2008

14441 Point Cabrillo Dr, Mendocino, CA 95460

Depart: Sunday, Aug 17, 2008

YOUR PARTICIPATION COSTS:

· Those in RV sites will pay their camping fees directly to Caspar RV Park and Campground when they get there. (Full hookup fees are $38/night for the first 2 people.
      Additional guests are $5/pp 16yr and over; $3/pp 6-15yr.

· RV campers will pay the club the "Saturday Night Dinner Only" fee for their attendance. This is $25 for members and "Wildcard" guests and $35 for guests. (FYI a
"Wildcard" guest is the member's significant other)

· Tent camping fees will be paid to the club. These fees include the Saturday night dinner. $40 for members and "Wildcard" guests and $50 for guests.

· Saturday night dinner only will be paid to the club. This is $25 for members and "Wildcard" guests and $35 for guests. (This is for those of us who reserved our own
tent site, stayed in a hotel or house, or drove/flew over just for the dinner.)

· Divers are free.

· Children 15 and under are free (must be accompanied by an adult).

· Pets--$2 per night per pet paid directly to Caspar RV Park and Campground.

I hope to hear from many of you soon. If you've been on this trip before I don't really have to sell you on it. You know how great it can be to get away from the valley heat in our hottest month. You remember sitting on the beach watching those gorgeous sunsets. You know how delicious that fresh abalone tastes! You know how good my homemade ice cream is --and yes I will have it again! If you're new to the club, please come. Bring your family and your dogs and I dare you to tell me that you didn't have a good time!!

Nancy Glebov 3725 Las Pasas Way Sac, CA 95864. ph#487-1150; email--nancylandrum@hotmail.com

Please note that any refunds for this trip will be made strictly in accordance with the current
FaGowee Refund Policy as published in each and every monthly issue of the Sacramento FaGowee
Snow News newsletter.

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

Bowling, Camping, Waterskiing, Horseback riding. kayaking.
What do YOU want to do?

It’s your turn to help out the club. Please refer to the article in Snow News from February 2005: http://www.sacramentofagowees.org/Archives/Jan2005NewsletterArchive.htm. It will give you a blueprint on what to do.  Call any board member if you need help.

We are looking for someone to put together a bowling activity.    It will be easy too.  Make a reservation for 4 lanes at a conveniently located bowling alley and then give FaGowees enough time to sign up in advance.  This will give you time to cancel any excess lanes you might have reserved.  The bowling could be followed by a dining event if you like.  Reservations are not available in most bowling alleys Tuesday thru Thursday evenings because of league play.   Another activity that should be popular is a camping trip.  Figure out dates and location and everybody can make their own reservations.  This is the summer, pick any kind of activity you enjoy and you’ll find other FaGowees eager to participate!

Hopefully, you can schedule your event in time to get an article in the newsletter!!  Articles are due the 20th of the month; email your article Andrea and your email will go out to all our members. Make sure the event doesn’t conflict with any major FaGowee events.
