Come
and join your brother & sister FaGowee’s at our 3rd
Annual FaGowee Family Picnic. This year’s outing is being combined
with our Annual Luau. The
Luau has traditionally been a fundraiser to help support your race team,
and this year is no exception. Rancho Seco Recreational Area is located
adjacent to SMUD’s former nuclear power plant. There is a 160-acre
fresh-water lake, large lawn areas and a large clean sandy beach. R/V
and tent camping sites are available for those who might want to come
earlier or stay longer. THE CLUB WILL PROVIDE: BBQ pork ribs and hot dogs, the sandwich buns and condiments, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, a sheet cake, a variety of soft drinks & bottled water, the plates, cups & eating utensils. YOU NEED TO BRING: Your friends and family (yes, your kids and grandkids are welcome). Bring your own adult beverages. If you would like to bring your favorite side dish to share, I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated. Bring your ball gloves, bats and a ball for a softball game, your horseshoes, your Frisbees, your swimsuits, your kayaks or canoes and your fishing poles. ADDITIONAL THINGS TO DO: Rancho Seco Recreational Area offers everybody a wide variety of things to do for their enjoyment.
DIRECTIONS: From Sacramento, take Highway 99 south to the Twin Cities Road/Highway 104 exit. Go east for 15 miles on Highway 104 to the Rancho Seco Park exit. Take the first right after passing the two towers to the park entrance. We’re looking forward to seeing you there. “AFFAFFA”

It’s volunteer time again. Mark your calendars and plan to join us as the FaGowee’s volunteer again to help serve the Sacramento County Adaptive Leisure Services by working at the finish line at Eppie’s Great Race, the world’s oldest triathlon. This event is 33 years old this year. Many of our faithful club members have served in this capacity for over 10 years and we have always had a great time. FaGowee members “man” (or to be politically correct – “person”) the finish line. We greet and congratulate the athletes as they arrive at the finish line, remove their bib numbers, staple their tags and record the overall times of the individual contestants or teams. For our efforts, we receive a T-shirt (SM to XXL), free drink and free food coupons and a free parking permit. We also receive an abundance of “Thank You’s” from many of the contestants and from the officials. After the race, we will meet at Diane Wilson’s home for a BBQ and Pool Party. Last year, our own then-President Eric Schmitt competed in the kayaking portion of this event, and he did quite well. If you were interested, Eric would like to get a FaGowee team together to compete this year. He will again participate in the kayak portion of the race, but he needs someone who’s willing to run and another to bike those portions of this event. Contact Eric Schmitt at 916-782-3158 if you are interested in putting together an official FaGowee Eppie’s Great Race Team. |

Says Your New Board: The 2005/2006 Executive Board is no more. We have a few new faces as well as a couple of veterans on board to serve your clubs Executive Board. With your help and constructive suggestions, the new Board will do its best to live up to your expectations and will serve in the best interest of the club overall. I want to welcome our new Vice President, Richard Persons to his seat on the Board. Richard had been a visitor many times to the meetings and many events and finally decided to join us. I also want to welcome our new Secretary, Cynthia Barlow to her position on this Board. Cynthia originally joined our club so she could travel with the FWSA to China. She became interested in the club and has since decided to become more active in serving the membership. I also want to welcome Norman Benedict as a veteran returnee to the Board. Norman has been a dedicated member for many years, and has served for several years on the Board as your Treasurer. His insight and work for the betterment of the club has helped make this club what it is today. Many Thanks: I want to thank each and every member of the 2005/2006 Executive Board who put in so much time, effort, energy and dedication to keep this club up and running. Words alone cannot express the thanks and respect that I have for each and every one of them. If the Board positions were a paid position, the club would not have enough money in the treasury to compensate what you’re really worth. Eric Schmitt has served as the Past President this year. He hasn’t been able to attend many of the Board Meetings due to his work schedule, but he has always been only a phone call away when I needed his advice or opinion. He has always had the clubs best interest at heart. Lee Johnson has been there with me at almost every Board meeting and has been there at almost every club event. The only times he was physically not there was when he was volunteering with the Flying Doctors and serving with them, caring for the medically disadvantaged in Mexico. He has been a member of this club forever and his knowledge of the clubs history has been invaluable. Lee’s humor has brought a lot of fun and laughter to many a meeting. Even though Lee is no longer serving in the capacity of the Vice President, his expertise and enthusiasm will be welcome as he takes on the roll of our new Race Chairperson. Margaret Norville has served as our Secretary as a no-nonsense true professional. When we would get off on some tangent, she has many times brought the Board back to dealing with the issue at hand. Her suggestions and remarks have always been well thought out and well received. Her notes and meeting minutes have all been clear, concise and complete. Diane Wilson stepped up to the plate and batted a thousand this year. She wasn’t originally elected to serve on the Board, but she was anxious and willing to serve when I asked her to fill the position of Trip Chair. Her enthusiasm was a valuable asset to us. Even though Andrea Woelfle was not officially on the Board, she took it upon herself to keep the club apprised of the events and standings of our Race team. She submitted many an article to the Newsletter Editor to keep us all informed, and she took on those duties of the Race Chair without ever asking for anything in return. Thank you Andrea, you’ve really been a blessing to us all. Karen Benedict has served in the capacity of Membership Chair for the past two years and had decided it’s time for her to take a break. Her shoes will be hard to fill, as it is a time consuming job. She has volunteered many times to sometimes temporarily fill in and take on the duties of the vacant position of Social Chair. I hope to be able to access her expertise for some of the events we’d like to plan in the coming year. Tracee Carter has done a wonderful job of creating the Sacramento FaGowee website and has been invaluable with keeping the Snow News in publication all year. Just after she took on the position of Newsletter Editor last year, her family moved to Spokane (Washington) due to her husband’s change in employment. Through the wonders of the Internet, she has been able to continue to serve as a positive asset to the club. She is missed at the meetings, but she is always positively remembered for her hard work and devotion to publishing the newsletter on time every month. Bob McDonald has been our Historian since I can ever remember, and I welcome him to continue in that position. He has been at most of the clubs events with his camera and has continued to keep our yearly scrapbooks up to date. These scrapbooks show the good times we’ve all enjoyed and bring back a lot of great memories when we view them. Bob brings the scrapbooks to the general meetings, so be sure to view them to remember those good times. Again, my thanks go out to each and every member of the 2005/2006 Executive Board. You did the all work while I just pretty much sat back and made sure the Board Meetings went well. You’ve all taken up the slack and came to bat when needed, and you’re all hit a grand slam in my opinion. You’ve all been a blessing to myself and to the FaGowees. Serving on the Board sometimes seems like a thankless job, but you’ll never know how much I personally really appreciated your dedication and your friendship, and I thank you all for your service this past year. SPRING PICTURES WANTED!!! By: Bob McDonald Celebrate Spring with pictures! Then I can include them in our photo albums. The photo album is brought to each and every FaGowee function with the photos of our past events, and I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums. If you have any pics of any FaGowee’s having fun, please get them to me so I can add them to our archives. For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I’d prefer the prints to be 4”x 6” in size. If you have any questions of photos you’d like to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277. |

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP
REFUND POLICY

I’m going on a 5-day camping vacation to Yosemite
National Park, and I am personally extending an invitation to any and
all FaGowee’s to join me for the entire time, or for any day (s) you’d
like to come. Please note that this is my vacation, and this
trip is NOT an official FaGowee event. However, any and all
FaGowee’s and their guests are invited to join those of us who will be
there. The club will NOT
be accepting any monies and will NOT be making any reservations
for anybody who wants to go, so if you want to join us,
you must make your own lodging reservations, and you will be responsible
for your own meals, lodging costs, entrance fees, and any other personal
expenses that you may incur. (The entrance fee to Yosemite is
good for 7 days from the time you purchase it, so you’ll only have a
one-time fee for park entry.)
Indian Flat R/V Park (and campground) is located next to
the Cedar Lodge (information & reservation #
888-742-4371) on Highway 140, just 8 miles outside the Yosemite’s west
gate. The lodge restaurant and pool facilities are open and
available to the campground guests. Cedar Lodge has both an indoor
and an outdoor pool for guest convenience, and there are no pool-usage
fees to the guests of the lodge or the campground. For you
river-fishing enthusiasts, the Merced River flows just across the
highway from the campground and lodge.

Get away from it all. Leave the 100+ summer degree heat of home behind and take the scenic route through the California Redwoods to the cooler weather on the coast north of Mendocino. Join us as we relax among the redwoods and sunbathe on one of the cleanest beaches in Northern California. Take a ride on the Skunk Train through some of the most pristine redwood forests you'll ever see. Explore the quaint town of Mendocino, test the libations at the brewpub in Ft. Bragg and join us for a great abalone feast on Saturday night (there will be BBQ chicken for those who have an aversion to abalone). I have reserved 14 R/V sites, and most have full hookup available. I will assign sites as I receive your reservation monies, so… First paid, First Taken. Be forewarned, you snooze - you lose. I still have a lot of space for tents for those of you who wish to “rough it.”
YOUR PARTICIPATION COSTS:
PLEASE BRING: Your own firewood & camping equipment, warm clothes as it can be cool (hey - you're at the ocean), lawn chairs, towels, soap, etc. BYOB!!! You're on your own for all meals except the Saturday Night Abalone Dinner. NEARBY THINGS TO DO: Including, but not limited to: Kayaking sea cave tours, Skunk Train, Botanical gardens, Pt. Cabrillo lighthouse, Mendocino Village, Noyo Harbor Fishing Village, magnificent redwoods, river canoeing, golf & tennis, many fine restaurants, bicycling, scuba diving, fishing, beach combing, shell collecting, horseback riding, blueberry picking and wine tasting at several of the local wineries. STILL NEEDED: Volunteer Divers, Volunteer Cooks, and lots of Happy Campers. CONTACT: Jim Van Riper at 916-721-0892 (p2forever@surewest.net) for more information. To guarantee your reservations, send your check payable to "FaGowee Ski Club" to me ASAP at one of the below addresses as follows:
Please note that any refunds for this trip will be made strictly in accordance with the current FaGowee Refund Policy as published in each and every monthly issue of the Sacramento FaGowee Snow News newsletter at www.sacramentofagowees.org. |
