Prez Says

As I write this, my first Prez Says article, I realize that I am only the President Elect until I officially take office on June 1st. However, by the time this goes to publication, I will have been installed as the President of the Sacramento Branch of FaGowee’s International. I have been a member of the Executive Board of this club and have served in one Executive Board position or another for almost 8 years now. I have seen many good, hard-working dedicated Presidents unselfishly serve this club over that period of time. I can only hope to live up to the standards they have set.
The Sacramento FaGowee Ski Club has been a great club for over 27 years, and it is to the credit of its members to have made it what it is today. We provide a wide variety of opportunities to get involved and participate in the many various fun-filled events offered, ranging from small social gatherings to the real reason this club was originally founded – and that is…. skiing.
This is your club. A couple years ago, we adopted the slogan “AFFAFFA” which translates to “All For Fun And Fun For All.” If you would like to see us do something different to add to the already numerous fun-filled activities we already offer, please don’t hesitate to let one of your Executive Board members know. We will do what we can to plan and host an event in accordance with your suggestions.
For example, one suggestion was made 3 years ago about having a group camping trip to an old ghost town, and from that suggestion, the annual Gold Point Ghost Town Trip was started. It is scheduled to be held this coming October – the third year in a row. Those who have attended in the past have raved about the fun they had, and most are planning to attend again this year.
Our 2nd Annual Family Picnic will be held at Rancho Seco Regional Park on Saturday, June 4th. This came from a suggestion made by a club member who wanted to include their children and grandchildren in a picnic event. As it turned out, several members found a way to have another camping trip and many attendees will be camping there for a couple days prior to the actual picnic on Saturday.
Again, this is your club. Take the time to join in and enjoy the company of others who have many of the same interests as you do. Take the time to take advantage of what this club has to offer you in the realm of fun and relaxing away from the daily drudgeries of life. You won’t be sorry if you do.
I look forward to working with the members of the new Executive Board in the coming year to make this an organization that offers something for everyone. With the interest and backing of the membership, this can and will be accomplished. AFFAFFA.

   2.        You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.
   3.        If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation
fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.
   4.        If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and

   6.
Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.
   7.        There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

 Eppie’s Great Race
July 16, 2005
8 am to 11 am

Time to start planning for the Eppie’s Great Race.  The race is a triathlon consisting of a runner, a cyclist, and a paddler.  It starts on the bike trail bridge at William Pond Park to Guy West Bridge to Sunrise Ave footbridge to Goethe Park.
No, we’re not looking for participants.  We are looking for VOLUNTEERS to help at the finish line.  We will be taking the popsicle sticks and bib tags from the finishers, and processing them.  I need a few people with special skills to enter the time on the scoreboards.
For four hours of volunteering you get a T-shirt, parking pass, food & drink tickets, and tight buns. There is a big party at Goethe Park after the race. In addition, we will have a pool party. The site year will be at Diane Wilson. She lives near Goethe Park. For those hardy soles, you can park at her house and ride or walk to Goethe Park.

For more information and volunteering, please contact:
Jackie Chesi, 916 344-8413 or j.chesi@comcast.net
Please leave your t-shirt size when you call or email.

ANNUAL ABALONE DIVE & DINE
By: Jim Van Riper & Jon Johnson – Trip Leaders

Get away from it all…. Leave the 100+ summer degree heat of home behind and take the scenic route through the California Redwoods to the cooler weather on the coast north of Mendocino. Join us as we relax among the redwoods and sunbathe on one of the cleanest beaches in Northern California. Take a ride on the Skunk Train through some of the most pristine redwood forests you’ll ever see. Explore the quaint town of Mendocino, test the libations at the brew-pub in Ft. Bragg and join us for a great abalone feast on Saturday night (there will be BBQ chicken for those who have an aversion to abalone).

I plan on holding an Oreo-stacking contest for the kids, a sand sculpting contest for those of all ages, and a campsite-decorating contest for the adults. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries, so hone your skills, dust off your fancy decorations and give it your best shot.

As of this writing, 14 of the 15 R/V sites have been spoken for. I have several others who are asking about R/V site availability, so those who get their payment to me will be guaranteed a site. We still have plenty of tent spaces for the young-at-heart and brave tent-campers available.
