BE A PART OF THE ACTION
By:  Jim Van Riper

What:             Eppie's Great Race
Day / Date:     Saturday, July 19, 2008 - 8:00 am to 11:00 am

It's volunteer time again.  Mark your calendars and plan to join us as the FaGowee's volunteer again to help serve the Sacramento County Therapeutic Recreation Services by working at the finish line at Eppie's Great Race, the world's oldest triathlon.  This 35-years-old event features a run-bike-paddle competition along the beautiful American River Parkway.  Competitors start with a 5.82 mile run, followed by a 12.5 mile cycle ride, and finally a 6.35 mile paddle race down the American River to the final finish line.

Many of our faithful club members have volunteered to serve at this event for over 12 years and we have always had a great time.  Our volunteer duties include congratulating the finishers as they cross the finish line, remove their bib numbers, staple their tags and record the overall times of the individual contestants or teams.

For our efforts, we receive a complimentary event T-Shirt (AM to XXL), FREE drink (water, soft drinks or beer) and FREE food (hot dog or chicken sandwich) coupons and a FREE parking permit for the day.  We also receive an abundance of "Thank You's" from many of the contestants and from the race officials.

After our duties are completed, we will once again meet at the home of Diane Wilson for a BBQ & Pool party.

Please contact Jackie Chesi with your name, phone number, e-mail address and your T-shirt size if you'd like to volunteer for such a worthy cause.  Your day will not be wasted, I promise. See you there!!

JULY IS POOL PARTY TIME!!!

Grab your swim gear, beach towels and a camp chair and head for Diane Wilson’s on Tuesday evening (7:00 pm), July 22nd  ‘cause it’s time for a pool party.

Anyone want to play Marco Polo in the pool? Just float around and cool off?  Diane’s address is 9716 Elmira Circle, Sac. 95827.  Check out directions on Map-quest if you need to.

Be sure and bring your favorite dish to share and as always, it’s BYOB.  This is always one fun event and this year will be no exception.  Meet the new Board members, make new friends and relive all the other outrageous things we’ve done in the past.

DON'T FORGET TO JOIN US AT THE
SOCIAL MEETINGS!

Prez Says

HERE WE GO INTO ANOTHER MONTH. THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR ATTENDANCE AT THE ICE CREAM SOCIAL. THOSE NOT PRESENT, YOU MISSED A HAPPENING!  THERE WERE SUNDAES, FLOATS AND CONES. THE GRILL WORK WAS GREAT BY ALL THE SELF STYLED CHEFS. THERE WERE BAKED BEANS, CHICKEN SALAD, MINI TACOS, POTATO SALAD AND MUCH MORE.

A BRIEF MEETING WAS HELD, GOING OVER UP COMING EVENTS.  WE HAD AN OPEN FORUM TO HEAR WHAT MEMBERS WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN AND IN WHICH DIRECTION THEY WANT THE CLUB TO GO. THE HOT TOPIC OF THE NIGHT WAS MEMBERSHIP.  HOW TO RENEW INTEREST AND HOW TO GET NEW MEMBERS?  WE DID GROW BY TWO (2) THANKS TO KATI WHITE.  OF COURSE MEMBERSHIP CHAIR IS VACANT, SO HELP IS NEEDED.  A COUPLE OF MEMBERS HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO SEARCH FOR SOLUTIONS, AND ONE OF THE NEW MEMBERS IS JOINING THAT GROUP.  MAYBE A CHAIRPERSON WILL COME FORTH FROM THERE.

A DISCUSSION ENSUED ON HOW TO GET PRESENT MEMBERS TO ATTEND THE SOCIALS AND EXTRA EVENTS COMING UP ON THE CALENDAR.  WE NEED MEMBERS WHO ONLY DO THE SNOW AND SKI SEASON TO ALSO BE APART OF THE TOTAL CALENDAR SOCIALS.  WE NEED ALL YOUR SUPPORT ALL YEAR AROUND.

TO PAST MEMBERS WHO HAVE LEFT US, WE WELCOME YOU BACK AS WE MISS YOU AND YOUR INPUT.  AS OF YET I HAVE NO UPDATE ON THE ABALONE DIVE BUT THERE ARE MANY OTHER ACTIVITIES COMING UP.

FOR MORE UPDATES ON THE COMING EVENTS, BE SURE TO CHECK THE EVENT PAGE.  KATI IS HARD AT WORK POSTING SOCIAL THINGS.  JACKIE IS LINING UP PEOPLE FOR EPPIE'S GREAT RACE.

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

See Photos Online!!!

ALSO looking for pictures for the newsletter!!!

Do you have information about a special event, interesting news or a
sale that is relevant to the interests of club members?
Email Andrea and it can be forwarded on to all the FaGowees.

Do We Have Your Correct Email Address???

The club sent out a lot of email in July. If you didn't get them, it is because we don't have your correct email address. WE are sending out a lot of updated information that isn't in your newsletter and we don't want you to miss out.

If your email has changed, please contact Andrea NOW!!  Word will be passed on to membership chairperson, Karen Fountain-Benedict.  If you have other changes, such as address or phone number, be sure to contact membership directly.

                                       Chapter One

GERMANY INVADES POLAND

Her Mother, Sophia, opened the paper and shook her head, a sad premonition buzzing in her brain.  Susie’s brother, Antonio, was nineteen and already talking about going into the Army Air Corps.  He wanted to fly away from the hot California summer and away from the back breaking work of the vineyard.  What would they do if Antonio left?  Would Susie get to go to college like she wanted?  Would Antonio’s friend, Kenny go too?  Her dear husband, Luigi, would he leave the vineyard and go to work at one of the ports or bases?

OK…now you have a taste of what’s coming for the
2008 FaGowee Car Rally!

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

Bowling, Camping, Waterskiing, Horseback riding. kayaking.
What do YOU want to do?

It’s your turn to help out the club. Please refer to the article in Snow News from February 2005: http://www.sacramentofagowees.org/Archives/Jan2005NewsletterArchive.htm. It will give you a blueprint on what to do.  Call any board member if you need help.

We are looking for someone to put together a bowling activity.    It will be easy too.  Make a reservation for 4 lanes at a conveniently located bowling alley and then give FaGowees enough time to sign up in advance.  This will give you time to cancel any excess lanes you might have reserved.  The bowling could be followed by a dining event if you like.  Reservations are not available in most bowling alleys Tuesday thru Thursday evenings because of league play.   Another activity that should be popular is a camping trip.  Figure out dates and location and everybody can make their own reservations.  This is the summer, pick any kind of activity you enjoy and you’ll find other FaGowees eager to participate!

Hopefully, you can schedule your event in time to get an article in the newsletter!!  Articles are due the 20th of the month; email your article Andrea and your email will go out to all our members. Make sure the event doesn’t conflict with any major FaGowee events.
