January Ski and Snowshoe Days

January 8th
Ski Day at Alpine

Meet at the bottom of Roundhouse Chair between 9:50 am and 10:00 am. If you miss the group please meet us for lunch at 1:00 pm at the main lodge in the Bar and then we will go to the cafeteria. You can buy tickets for $39 through the club. Call Rob Rice at 916-984-1567. You can also purchase $39 tickets at Alpine, but they limit the number sold.
After a fun filled day of skiing we will have dinner at Jakes on the Lake in Tahoe City. I am making reservations for 6:30 pm so if you plan to attend the dinner please, please, please let me know no later then January 5th so I can change the reservation.
The day of skiing if you are trying to find the group on the slopes you can call my cell .

January 9th
Snowshoe Day

A ½ day moderate hike on the Donner Pass Lakes and Boreal Ridge Loop. We will meet at 10:30 am. Please pack a lunch and water and you should dress in layers. We will meet in the Sno-Park at the east end of the frontage road south of the freeway. Snowshoeing is enjoyable, not hard and you’ll see unbelievable beautiful sights. You can rent snowshoes at any REI, Adventure Sports, or the Ace Mountain Hardware in Truckee. These are only a few places to rent at. Please remember to bring poles also.

Directions--- Get off on the Castle Peak exit from I-80 go south to the Sno-Park lot. Note: You will need a parking pass and must have it before you park. A day pass is $5.00 and a season pass is $25.00. You can buy it at any Ace hardware or gas station along I-80 or in Truckee. Basically any place that sells fishing licenses sells Sno-Park parking passes. If you do not have one of these passes, you will get a $75 ticket. You could park free in Boreal’s parking lot and then walk over to the Sno-park lot, however it is a little walk.

Happy New Year!!!

What a Christmas party, huh? The FaGowee club band, "Walkin’ The Dawg", played into the wee night hours.
Winter, as portrayed in our popular culture, is the season to stay home ("Oh the weather outside is frightful..."), warm your feet near the hearth ("...but the fire is so delightful"), and pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate.  But, it is also a time to escape to the mountains and ski the Sierra.  Mark your calendars for January 8th and 9th for the club ski and snowshoe weekend.  Contact Meredith Meschini if you plan to go.
The FaGowees have many winter activities scheduled for the coming months,
including a ski trip, which is under construction.  You may contact Shirley with your ideas!
Please read your new newsletter via e-mail starting with this one.  Come join the FaGowees and make new friends.  We are here for you to have fun.

See you on the slopes,
Eric

Remember, the newsletter will continue in paper format as well, unless you have informed a Board member other wise! However, we hope to have everyone glancing at the new website!

Board Members also have new email addresses.

Please use the addresses listed to the left to communicate with the Board Members.

Thank You Tracee Carter for setting up the
Sacramento FaGowees online!

DREAMING OF A FAGOWEE CHRISTMAS
By Lee Johnson

On Christmas day the brave and lonely gathered at the beautiful home of Sally Green to celebrate the FaGowee Orphan’s Annual Christmas dinner. It was a great success and the revelers led by Miriam Ely, Sally's good friend and neighbor Ruth Ries, Ruby Lerner, Lee Johnson, Michele Stern, John Zuris, Helene Mulligan, and Karen Orcut, and of course our hostess Sally Green. The menu consisted of Turkey a la Sally, mashed potatoes, yams, fruit salad, corn fritters, and Ruth's desert of chocolate mousse. There was plenty of food and we enjoyed great fellowship and most stayed and chatted around the dinner table long after our appetites were sated. Let's do it again next Christmas!!

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

1.        The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.
2.        You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.
3.        If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee
will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.
4.        If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less
any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.
5.        If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the
Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the
trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds
from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the
event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.
6.
Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.
7.      There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.
