Prez Says

The year is ending fast.  Soon Santa will appear and the New Year will be upon us.
It’s nice to look back at some recent events and smile.

First, there was the end of October with the Halloween costume party.  Diane Wilson’s place had all the spirits rising up from the graveyard and special personalities greeting the guests at the door the winner for the best costume went to Ruby Lerner. Ms. Ah Eeda, the taro card reader was a big hit! Thanks to all who attended and thanks Diane for your hospitality.

Then came the game night hosted by Eileen Kennedy.  A very special group showed up, both present and past members.  It was good to reacquaint with past members.  A drawing for a door prize was won by Al Reeder. Enjoy the wine & goodies, Al!!  Here again, thanks to all of you for coming out and we hope to see more of the past members on other events.  Thanks Eileen for letting us descend upon your lovely home.

By the time you get this, we will have had our November social meeting by having a pre-thanksgiving dinner November 25th at the old spaghetti factory.  A good time will be had by all remembering thanksgiving of yesteryear…good, awful and funny!

For more up coming events check your newsletter, as there is much more, including the Christmas party on Sat., Dec 13th at the capitol city hotel cal expo, corner of Fulton Ave. & Auburn Blvd.  Get your tickets, come dressed up for the holidays, enjoy the socializing, good food, good friends and then dance and be entertained by karaoke singers. Some are pretty darned good!

In this season of the holidays, let us not forget friends and loved ones. Especially one of our own…Tom Tobin.  Thanks to all of you who have assisted in helping Tom.  Let’s not forget either, the men and women in our armed forces past & present who have made it possible for us to enjoy these holidays and look forward to a peaceful and “normal” new year!  May yours be a great one!

Hope your holidays are enjoyable and loving.  Blessings to all of you.

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

See Photos Online!!!

ALSO looking for pictures for the newsletter!!!

Do you have information about a special event, interesting news or a
sale that is relevant to the interests of club members?
Email Andrea and it can be forwarded on to all the FaGowees.

Do We Have Your Correct Email Address???

A lot of our announcements go out by email.
If your email has changed, please contact Andrea NOW!!
You can also contact her regarding address and phone number.
If you want an email going out to membership with your new email address, let her know.

Singles New Year’s Eve Dance!
Bayside Church, 8191 Sierra College Blvd., Roseville
Wednesday, December 31
st, 7 pm
By Kati White

Sorry!  All you married folks will have to find your own entertainment for New Year’s Eve this year.  The newspapers and electronic media will be full of ads for you to see and make the selection of your choice but us single folks…

We’re steppin’ on out with over 400 other single people to dance the night away.

Spend New Year’s Eve dancing to great music from professional DJ, Carlos Aceituno, on Bayside’s Celebration Center beautiful hardwood floor!  The doors open at 7 pm but you may want to come early so when you do get in, you can make a mad dash for your table of choice.

Once you’ve found your table & place, head for the fantastic gourmet appetizer buffet to get your fill of delicious foods.  Up until intermission, they just keep bringing more and more good stuff.  After the intermission, then the even more wonderful dessert buffet starts.  They do have coffee, tea, punch and water but the event is non-alcoholic so no worries about drinking & driving.  After all this, If you go away hungry, it’s your own fault.

When you arrive, you will be given some party favors, etc. and just moments before midnight, the big countdown starts.  At midnight, bunches of balloons drop from above, the streamers stream and everyone cheers in 2009!

The $25.00 tickets may be purchased in advance (BEFORE DEC. 26th) by sending your check, made payable to FaGowees to Kati White, 9449 Appalachian Drive, Sacramento, CA. 95827-1136.   $35.00 tickets may be purchased at the door but why pay the extra bucks (No FaGowees bucks may be used!), get your check to Kati right away for the Christmas Party AND the New Year’s Eve Dance!

Discount Tickets ~ Robert Rice

Each year the club offers members the chance to purchase lift tickets to the most popular North Tahoe resorts at a discount (usually $9 to $11 below the normal price). Just send in a completed order form and a check to guarantee your tickets. You can also purchase tickets throughout the season while supplies last. And the best part is, you can turn in your tickets at the end of the season by the posted deadline for a credit towards tickets next year.

Members who turned in tickets last spring should have received an order forms with your credits. If you have credits and fail to return your form before the deadline an order will be made to cover your credits. Credits are ski area specific (e.g., if you turned in Homewood tickets your credit is only good for Homewood tickets). Order forms will also be posted on the Sacramento FaGowees website or you can contact me via phone or e-mail and I’ll send you an order form.

As usual the club is offering tickets at the five popular North Tahoe ski areas. Only limited pricing details are available at this time.

Race Corner ~ Andrea Woelfle
This is going to be a fun, fun race season. But find out for yourself! Start Racing. It’s challenging, exhilarating and just plain fun. And sometimes you even win a medal and smile when you hear your new racing buddies clapping for you at the awards ceremony in the afternoon.

There are no longer long waits to race, registration is simplified; you can register on-line if you want if you have already signed your waiver forms and paid up. However, it is more fun to get there early and mingle with other racers. Also you need to know what hill you’ll be racing on.

Try it. You’ll get addicted fast. Call Andrea at 487-9052 for more info or email her.

SEASON RACE PASSES

Carving Cup Race

Sierra League is putting on a Carving Cup Race, which is a FUN race for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. You have NO excuse not to try this event. are also welcome if their parents race. None of us have ever tried this before, so we’ll all be starting from scratch!

With very little of mountains open on man-made snow and snow conditions iffy, there will be almost nothing else to do than race!

This is a fun event for snowboarders. Carving snowboards should be the same fast as skis.

We have never tried this before and it should prove to be a blast!

Carving Cup Race
Date: 12/07/2008 (Sunday)
Location: Alpine Meadows (Kangaroo)
Cost: $20 (includes practice runs and two race runs)
Lift tickets: TBD. (Early season deep discounts or group discounts will apply).
Registration: 8am - 9am in the lodge, probably by the fireplace.
Training runs: 9:30 - 11:30am
Race: 12 noon.

No poles are allowed! Helmets are required. It consists of skiing or boarding around 3 buoys. You have a choice of which route you take along the buoys and get more points for the more difficult routes. There will be training runs first. Racing classes are based on age and gender. You can bomb out on your first run and still win. The better of 2 runs is the one that counts.

Let Andrea know if you are interested so that we can get all the details to you.

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

What do YOU want to do?

It’s your turn to help out the club.

Summer is fading into fall. Pick any kind of activity you
enjoy and you’ll find other FaGowees eager to participate!

Hopefully, you can schedule your event in time to get an article in the newsletter!! Articles are due the 20th of the month; email your article to Andrea and your email will go out to all our members.

Make sure the event doesn’t conflict with any major FaGowee events. If the event requires expenditure of club funds, then you will need to get board approval before we can publicize it.
