 April 2009

\

BRING YOUR BATHING SUIT AND.…
AN APPETITE!!!

Steve Sommers has relinquished his home for the Tuesday, April 28th FaGowee Social Potluck and Spa party.  Thank you Steve!  His address is:  8425 Hastings Ct., Sacramento, 95826.  It’s in the College Greens area just off Hwy. 50.  If you get lost, his phone number is 212-9221.  The party starts at 6:30 with each of you bringing a delicious food dish to share. What’s your favorite culinary specialty you’d like to show off?  Don’t have time to cook?  “Store bought” is OK too!  You know how we all love potluck foods to eat and what a great variety there always seems to be.   As always, it’s BYOB.

Steve will have the spa heated up and the bubbles will be flowing.  Put on your bathing suit and climb in so you can relax before or after dinner.  Be sure to bring a towel and “after spa” wear if you so choose.  Unfortunately, unless Lori Taylor is there, no massages will be available.  Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky!

OCCASION: Cinco de Mayo Potluck Party

DATE / TIME: Tuesday, May 5, 2009 @ 6:30 pm

CONTACT: Diane Wilson’s hacienda ~ 361-3140

Prez Says

Here it is.  Spring has sprung so that means April showers will bring May flowers.  Day Light Savings Time has moved in and we are still trying to adjust.   I think!  Now it is on to Easter and all the ladies decking out in their finery with bonnets.  Even some of the men will sport new duds and look dapper! I saw some hats at the St Patrick social that maybe could be used again.  Thank You Ruby, and Steve for the Irish Bonnets.  Speaking of the St Patrick Social, there was a very good turn out and the Corn Beef and trimming was gone quicker than the Leprechaun hiding in a patch of four leaf clover.  Thank You Ms Kati O’ White for your preparation and hospitality of your home.

I have to reference the term St Patrick over St Patty’s, St Patty’s was the English term to put down the reverence of St Patrick and the piping of the Rats to the hills.  Or was it the English just didn’t know how to enjoy good Green Ale?  On to other highlights....

There Election for a new board is fast closing in and the selection committee is looking for good leaders to step up.  It is your club so contact one of the Nominating Committee members to volunteer for a Board position. Your 2009-2010 Nominating Committee members are: Bob McDonald, Helene Mulligan and Karen Fontaine-Benedict.  Election will be at the May 5th Cinco de Mayo Social, so everyone come and vote often...........Sorry I thought I was in Chicago. The new board takes over June 1st.   Be sure to check your social calendars and mark all the good and important dates.  If you wish, you can forget April 15th and request a federal bail out, no strings attached........well maybe not many.

   Happy Easter.

Special Announcements

Pictures Wanted!!!
Bob McDonald

We keep a photographic record of FaGowee events.  In case you weren't aware, I do bring the FaGowee photo albums to each and every FaGowee function for all to look at, enjoy and remember those times they depict.  But I cannot keep up with the albums unless I have your photos to include in them.  I depend on you, the general membership, to supply those photos for the albums.

So please take pictures when you're at a FaGowee function and get copies of the prints to me so I can add them to our archives.

For the sake of ease in creating and displaying the photo pages, I'd prefer the prints to be formatted to be 4"x 6" in size.  Also, I would like the event photos to be in groups of 6 so they will take up an entire page in the album.

If you have any questions or photos you'd be willing to part with, please contact me at 916-817-4277.

PICTURES WANTED:

Although I am always looking for photos of all events, right now I'm specifically looking for pictures of FaGowees skiing and racing and having fun at the ski resorts this past ski season.

CODE OF CONDUCT AT FaGOWEE EVENTS
(Adopted and Approved by the FaGowee Executive Board on November 13, 2007)

At each event, the event chairperson has the final say.  Therefore, if you have a problem or concern with the event, you may approach the event coordinator and express your concern in a constructive manner.  If it is not resolved to your satisfaction at that time, do not argue or make a scene.  You may present your concern to the Executive Board in writing or in person at any Executive Board meeting.

All FaGowee events are planned to be fun for all those in attendance.  The Board, as outlined in Article VII, Section 2 of the By-Laws of the FaGowee Constitution, may discipline those persons who unnecessarily or excessively disrupt the fun for others resulting from their rude or obnoxious behavior.

FaGOWEE FUNCTION OR EVENT SIGN-UP LATE FEES
(Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting on July 11, 2006)

SIGN-UP LATE FEES: On each and every advertised FaGowee club event published in the Snow News newsletter, a sign-up due date will be listed as well as the member and non-member prices to attend that function or event. Any person who signs up and submits their payment for attendance after that published due date will be assessed a 50% late fee penalty. In addition, any person who does not sign up at all to attend a function or event and just shows up at the door will be assessed a 100% late fee penalty (payable in full at that time) before being allowed admittance to that function or event.

FaGOWEE EVENT / TRIP REFUND POLICY
Revised, Approved and Adopted at the Executive Board Meeting, October 8, 2003

  1. The following Refund Policy applies to any Club event for which a fee is charged.

  2. You will automatically receive a 100% refund fur any trip or event cancelled by the Club.

  3. If you cancel and someone takes your place from the waiting list, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid, less a cancellation fee. The cancellation  fee will be $10.00 or 10% of the event/trip fee- whichever is more, unless a specific cancellation fee is advertised for the event/trip.

  4. If you cancel and there is no waiting list, or no one on the list takes your place, you will receive a refund of the amount you paid less a cancellation fee and less any expenses that the Club incurs due to your cancellation.

  5. If you arrange for someone not on the waiting list to take your place, you will be responsible for full payment to the Club plus any transfer fees or costs the Club incurs because of the change. Other money transactions are between you and your replacement. You must provide that replacement with a note for the trip leader or you must confirm the replacement directly with the trip leader prior to the event/trip. The person who submits payment must request all refunds from the Executive Board in writing within 60 days after the completion of the event/trip. The Executive Board will review the final financial report from the event/trip and may approve refunds in accordance with this refund policy.

  6. Any member may appeal to the Executive Board for refunds greater than provided by this policy if special circumstances warrant.

  7. There will be no refund for events that are designated as "Fund Raisers" unless they are cancelled or rescheduled by the Club.

May 16-17, 2009

IT’S REALLY A COMBINATION CAR RALLY & WEEKEND ROAD TRIP

Main Theme is the 1941-1945 WWII Era.

We’ll start out at Denny’s Diner at Howe Ave. & Hwy. 50 at 9 AM on Saturday morning.  You’ll follow clues until we get to the last one of the stopping places where you can buy lunch if you wish  Then we’ll just tell you where the next stop will be.  During the day you will be in and out of your car a lot!!!  Don’t want to drive alone? No worries, we’ll match you up with some loveable, laughable person who can help you find your way.

After the Treasure Hunt at that stop, you’ll go back to the place where we last met.  Pick up a special card and from there you have to follow clues to the next stop.  You’ll have to look for some Trivia information at that site.  After that, we’ll just tell you where the next stop will be and we can guarantee you’ll have fun!  Can you spell Bocce Ball?

Follow a few more clues and they will lead you to your night time destination.  It’s easy.

Dinner will be at a very unusual establishment where you will feel like you have stepped back in time to 1943.  We guarantee the food will be delicious and fill you up. If you are a vegetarian, let Kati know. Otherwise, we are all served like you’re in a military mess hall.

The entertainment is set to put you back to 1943 also.  Dress up in a style from the 1941-45 era.  Uniforms from the various services, housedress, Rosie the Riveter, Movie Star (Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Audie Murphy, Roy Rogers, Bette Davis, Tracy & Hepburn, Bogie & Bacall, etc.)  We all get to sing along to tunes from WWII.  Just like at a USO canteen.  Use your imagination and join the troops.

A Continental Breakfast will greet you on Sunday morning and we’ll figure out who won what. Then you can wonder and wander all over the area if you wish and have a wonderful day to finish a fun and wonderful weekend.  We guarantee you will feel like you’ve had a great get-away weekend!  Time out to have fun and relax with friends.

Cost is $75.00 per person and FaGowees is paying for the balance.  It’s just one of the many benefits of being a member.  If you are not a member, you can either join for what ever the appropriate dues are or pay $125.00 per person.

Make out your check today to FaGowees to hold your place in this exciting and time traveling Car Rally/Weekend Road Trip.  Mail it to Kati White, 9449 Appalachian Drive, Sacramento, CA. 95827.  She’ll get the rest of the information and instructions to you upon receipt of your payment.  C’mon!  The weather will be Springy, the road traveled – easy and a comfy room at the end of the day!  What could be better???

Just contact Kati right way!  (916) 804-3991 or EMAIL.
